Armed with positive lyrics, clever metaphors, and a polished flow, South Bend hip-hop artist, B-Phraze, is on a mission to “Be A Light Through Lyric”.
From overcoming a severe speech impediment as a child to earning a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications from Tennessee State University, it’s only natural for B-Phraze to pen lyrics that instill hope, belief, and the confidence to overcome life’s obstacles. This is evident on his latest song titled “#iBelieve“, which was recently named as a Grand Prize Award winner in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest.
After memorizing the theme song from the “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, 12 year old B-Phraze was so in love with hip-hop, that he began to write his own lyrics shortly thereafter. After many years of sharpening his writing skills and filling up many notebooks, he officially embarked on his musical journey in 2005 after the release of his first solo project entitled “Stay Tuned“. The project was produced by cousin and Grammy Award Nominee, Johnathan “YPJ” Miller. The song “2nd Letter” from the album delivered him a first runner up spot in the hip-hop category of the 2005 John Lennon Songwriting Contest.
Over the years, he has released two mix-tapes and been featured on various songs from artist across the country. In 2012, he was a headline artist at the “Megakidz” Conference in Dallas Texas, hosted by Bishop T.D. Jakes. That opportunity inspired him to write and produce a children’s hip hop CD titled “Remember That“, which focused on such topics as bullying, self-esteem, and true friendship. He is currently constructing a children’s book based off of that album. His YouTube channel has nearly 5 million views largely due to the success of rap parody videos that he performed with cousin and fellow rap artist “Million“. The success of those parodies landed the duo an agreement with Comcast On Demand and also delivered B-Phraze the leading role in the pilot cartoon series “Hip-Hop Fables“.
In addition to spreading his positive message at colleges, churches, juvenile centers, and community events nationwide, his music can also be found on various internet platforms such as iTunes, Rhapsody, Spotify, and more. In a genre saturated with lyrics that glorify drugs, violence, and negativity, B-Phraze hopes to continue on his mission to “Be A Light Through Lyric”.
